Semenya - Gender Issue

So after Semenya burst with a world leading time of 1 minute, 56.72 seconds at the African junior championships, the IAAF asked the South African athletics federation to conduct the gender test.
Okay, I don't know what the results will be but I can't help to wonder, what really makes a person a woman or a man? What if you have some of the things that are suppose to make you a male and some for a female person, who then determines who you should be and how do they reach to that conclusion of who you should be? Shouldn't it be on how comfortable a person feels being who they believe they are? I'm not talking about a person who have changed their gender, simply a person who was born different and has a little bit of a man and a woman in them.
For those who have read my new book, Under Man's Spell, you can see for a character like Abe she is considered less of a female because she can't have kids. Even her name to some people it adds the not so feminine aspect. Somehow it is like beauty in the eye of the beholder, what makes a person a male or a female is not necessary the same from one person to the other.

  1. I did see this on the internet. Did they findout what they were looking? Not sure what to think of the whole thing though, I somehow understand the concerns, only that they should have done it in a private manner.
